It is that time of year again ! The Volleyball Victoria Country Championships are on in the Latrobe Valley.

As it has always been the case, Geelong volleyball will attend the championships this year and will attempt to enter in each division. The divisions are Men and Women, Division 1 and 2 for each.

To make this participation possible, the committee are seeking volunteers to help organise the logistics, management of teams and coaching of teams to get to the championships and have a good time. Some preliminary work has been done mainly in the team preparation.

If you can assist in any area it will make the athletes experience more memorable.

We are after for;

Manager - to handle the high level organising required for this type of tournament (tops, training, accomodation,etc)

Coaches - for each division. They will train and coach players and select a representative side for the championships.

Now, don't be bashfull !. Now is the time to support the sport that has provided so much enjoyment to you over so long.

See any member of the committee (Rob, Carol, Wilko or Ray) during game night, send an email from this site or drop in to the GAVA office at the centre for information.

The Geelong Volleyball Development Squad travelled to Warrnamboolon the weekend of 6t-8th March to participate in its first tournament, competing in Division 4.

Squad members are:

Paul Henry (C), Alex Tkaczuk (VC), Liam van Gemst, Adam Straube, Adam Cirillo, Nick Murzin, Mitch Clarke, Nick Semjanov.

Saturday morning saw the team face off early against Nth West Pumas. We overcame a determined Pumas outfit to win in 3 sets, 25 - 21, 28 - 26, 14 - 9.

Our next challenge was Who's your Daddy comprised of tall determined basketball players. A tough battle ensued but ended in our favour 2 - 1, 20 - 25, 25 - 21, 16 - 14.

Sundays first game caught our boys on the hop. They were overwhelmed by a determined Sunraysia losing  2- 1. 20 - 25, 23 - 25, 25 - 20.

Our second match of the day saw our hosts Warrnambool come out with all guns blazing. Our first set went quickly but the boys re-grouped and took the next two sets. Scores 17 - 25, 25 - 20, 18 - 11.

Our final match of the day pitted us against Daylesford. The boys continued from the previous match with strong offence and defence and took this one 3 - 0, 25 - 22, 25 - 17, 19 - 17.

Mondays final against Daylesford started at a blistering pace with us taking out the first two sets comfortably with good passing, setting and HUGE hitting. Daylesford had nothing to loose in the third and played a more controlled and attacking game surprising the Geelong boys with a fight back. After re-grouping the boys started the fourth set as they finished the second overcoming Daylesford and taking the match. Scores 25 - 15, 25 - 17, 21 - 25, 25 - 18.

Our VC Alex won the MVP for the division.
